this is SOO late sorriess orz -prolly wont have great detail bcuz i dont remember,,tehe~☆

i'll try to get back on track after this one!

ree

after ao haru ride, i was in desperate need of something to fill the void, so i turned to the next short romance on my list- my little monster. this was a lot lighter, but still had some realistic issues that i could relate to.

ree

our issues begin with this cock-loving freak, haru yoshida. haru is a cheerful and intelligent boy with intense anger issues, who resolves his issues through means of violence.

this violence is where my mixed feelings about the series stem from. it doesn't really get into why haru is this way, just that he is misunderstood because of it. he always has good intentions in mind- like protecting people from bullies. still, he ends up accidentally hitting shizuku many times, which just feels uncomfortable instead of funny.

ree

shizuku mizutani is a girl who's one and only priority in life is to get good grades. she gets tangled up in haru's messy existence against her will, when she delivers him a handout during his suspension.

haru gets attached to shizuku as she doesnt seem to be afraid of him like other people are, and is convinced to go back to school as long as she is there.

the opening is fun. the bright and colourful visuals remind me of the frutiger metro aesthetic from that time. also haru on a leash is kinda......... o///o

why was there a rooster? comedy relief i suppose, but i really didn't understand how that came to be or why it continued to be important lolz

one thing i LOVED was the school festival episode where all the characters were dressed up for a haunted house. there's no funkin pics online so i had to find and screenshot myself but so worth!! bc just LOOK

i'm so much happier when the artists get a little creative with stuff like this instead of just putting different characters into the same troupey fanservice costumes.

now for the flesh of the review, discussing the actual plot:

i understand there are limitations present for short anime such as this, but this really did feel like an unrealistic amount of change within too short a time frame.

i understand why shizuku is skeptical of haru's confession of love, rationalizing it by saying he just wasn't used to having friends and what he was feeling was simply platonic love. that kinda thing really can happen, and i've likely experienced it myself; those week-long crushes you have before realizing it isn't really like that.

the flip-flopping of loveudoveu and neutral as the honeymoon period passes also afflicts this pair, as they never seem to be on the same page. annoying, yet typical for timing to be terrible in a shoujo.

the introduction of ken as a rival was nothing crazy as it was always very clear shizuku was not interested in romance with any male, regardless of similarities or status. i don't recall there being an "omg shes cheating on me" miscommunication troupe, at least, and ken isnt made out to be a character to hate (though i don't remember caring very much, either). i do think is lack of directional skills adding some gap moe was sweet, tho, as i am also very directionally challenged at times.

ree

in conclusion...

★★☆☆☆ 2 lucky stars.

it may be because i've forgotten what made this show special, or that there wasn't much in the first place.
