i think it peaked at the start, then it was just discomfort from the drama with too little dokidoki in return.

being a 13 episode anime, there wasn't a lot of time for any of the relationships to become meaningful, i feel. asami became friends with mei because she helped her, but what made mei overcome her trust issues and befriend her? not to mention the incredibly lacking foundation of the main couple. he "found mei interesting" and she... lost her first kiss to him, i guess. i understand the point was to have an established relationship right away rather than building up and ending with a confession, but i still feel there was a lot left to be desired. even with such a small cast, several characters seemed to have no real purpose besides causing some tension between the main two with some sort of misunderstanding.

soundtrack was pretty cute but a bit repetitive sometimes (maybe just cuz i binged)

i would be able to play it in the background of my own life and feel pretty romantic >< i thought a specific track was the morse code "i love you" song, but i was mistaken. comparison here:

i reaally liked the scene cards, they were so girly and cute cute

sadly, mei lost her originality as a character at some point and just became blushy or sad

even her growing hair, though a nice detail, made her look pretty plain.

ive gotten really tired of the "pretty perfect popular girl is actually a bitch" trope by now too

u see it in like every romance drama

megu here, kurumi in kimi ni todoke, blue girl in toradora

i suspect its a bit misogynistic, and just an easy way to start shit.

i also could never really tell if i found the main guy cute? they never comitted to either confident or shy, so he was a bit wishy-washy... and that hair! could use a trim in the back, and then it would be cool- like vkei! either way, it's 100% better than kai's. what even XD

the last episode was pretty pointless i have to admit

an annoying scenario that made me groan out loud drawn out just so we could end with "i love you" like the title

its fitting but the second last episode felt good enough an ending, loose ends tied, just missing the title really

but yes i want more dokidoki !! give me the highschool romance i missed out on !!

less "ahh im not good enough for him" whatever whatever

i already watched two seasons of that (kimi ni todoke review to come)

in conclusion...

★★✫☆☆ 2.5 lucky stars. too much pessimistic main girl, too little heart pounding. strong start with a kiss on episode 1 and dating in episode 2, but after that, even where opportunity was there, not enough doki-moments ;;
